Ms Judith Bourassa Research Administrator Telephone: 0161 247 6706 Day-to-day administration of research studentships. Assistant Secretary and first point of contact for the Academic Board Research Committee, Professoriate, Research Institute Directors’ Management meetings and the Research Administrators’ Group. Coordinates the Research Activity Survey and other related research statistical returns, e.g. the RAE return.

Ms Maggy Taylor Research Grants Support Officer – EU Funding Telephone: 0161 247 1059 Overall responsibility for research grants applications, both national and international. Advice on, and checking of, research bids and contracts with particular emphasis on EU Framework funding. Providing guidance on staff salary costs, travel and subsistence, consumables, etc. in order that staff may produce a well-costed and framed proposal. Supplying advice and practical support to staff on the JeS system and the new fEC costing model. Dissemination of information on research funding from EU sources, research councils, and charities etc. Establishing monitoring systems, for example, to track the proportion of success rates for proposals. Works with Finance Division on the development of guidelines for research costing systems e.g. the introduction of full economic costs (fEC) for research bids. Organisation, co-ordination and presentation of staff training seminars on applying for research funding. With The Director of Research, Enterprise and Development and the Assistant Director of Research provides advice to senior members of University staff on research policy issues. |

Miss Clare Holdcroft Research Degrees Officer Telephone: 0161 247 1062 Secretary to the Academic Board Research Degrees Sub-Committee. Responsibility for research degree examinations from the approval of examiners through to the conferment of awards; monitoring and updating of research degree regulations and associated handbooks; advice on research degree regulations and procedures; central coordination of the monitoring and evaluation of research students; organisation of and presentation at workshops for staff and the research students’ generic training programme; administration of the Overseas Research Student Award Scheme (ORSAS) and the student area of the Research Management System. Assists with research returns e.g. the Research Assessment Exercise and the annual Research Activity Survey to HEFCE.

Miss Caroline White Research Degrees Administrator Telephone: 0161 247 1056 Administration of research degrees examinations, including processing of theses, viva notifications, conferment of awards and advice on regulations and procedures for research degrees of the University. Maintains and produces reports from the central research student database, including providing statistics for the monitoring and evaluation of research students. Assists in other areas of the unit, for example, the Research Assessment Exercise.

0161 247 3623 Coordinates the research output area of the Research Management System, including working with the MIS team on streamlining and further developing the system. Coordinates the research output area of the Research Assessment Exercise. Advises staff and students on the completion of COREC forms for research-related ethical approval within the NHS, checking such applications and co-ordinating their approval through relevant senior staff of the University. Supports the Assistant Director of Research on the development of working arrangements under the NHS Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care. Services the University’s Academic Ethics Committee. With the Research Degrees Officer organises the research students’ generic training programmes. Assists with research returns e.g. the Research Assessment Exercise and the annual Research Activity Survey to HEFCE. |
